The Amazing Digital Camera You Probably Haven’t Heard About

June 12, 2012 · 0 comments

Digital Cameras have come a long way in the past 5-6 years in terms of improving image quality, workflow, meeting the demands of independent filmmakers, and affordability. However, there is a new digital camera aiming to take progress even one step further- The Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera.

Manufactured by the Australian based company Blackmagic Design, this latest digital camera delivers a score of impressive features, including:

  • A 2.5K Image Sensor

  • 12-bit Raw ProRes and DNxHD Formats

  • 13 Stops of Dynamic Range

  • EF and ZE Lens Mount (which is compatible with the Canon EF, Zeiss CP.2 and ZE lenses)

  • A 5’’ LCD Touchscreen with Metadata Entry

  • Records to Removable SSD Drives

  • Includes DaVinci Resolve and Ultrascope (a $1,000 system for FREE)

  • and Much, Much MORE.

Probably the most astonishing feature and the one that will seize the attention of most independent filmmakers, is the insanely low price point- $2,995!

While this camera does still contain some flaws, like utilizing a 4/3s sensor instead of a Super 35mm-sized sensor like the RED or Canon C300, I still predict this camera will be a popular item once it’s released in late July among the independent film crowd.
